Rikki Rockett's drum style uses heavy accents and a driving feel.

Rikki Rockett is best known as the drummer for glam metal band, Poison. Like most drummers, Rockett has used a particular style throughout his professional career. His style is composed mostly of basic rock beats with heavy emphasis on counts two and four, and a driving feel.

Instructions

    • 1

Hit the hi-hat strongly, typically on counts one, two, three and four during the verse of the song and sometimes during the intro, such as the intro on "Ride The Wind" by Poison.

    • 2

Hit the snare with strong accents, most often on counts two and four.

    • 3

Accent the ride cymbal, sometimes on the bell of the cymbal, during the chorus or guitar solo section playing quarter notes or eighth notes.

    • 4

Use crash cymbals to provide accents, such as hitting the crash cymbals on the final eighth note of the measure (the "and" of count four) during the choruses in "Nothin' But a Good Time" by Poison.

    • 5

Hit the bass drum using the bass drum pedal, typically on downbeats and other areas of the measure.

    • 6

Spin the drumsticks between powerful snare hits for showmanship. If no hi-hat is being played, spin both sticks, but spin just one if hi-hat and snare are being played simultaneously.
