How to Create a Master School Schedule

A master school schedule is a calendar that lists every relevant event, along with a short synopsis of each event. The synopsis should be no more than a single sentence. Whether at the elementary or the college level, a master schedule will be something that visitors and experienced personnel alike will consult and find useful.

  • Solicit individual schedules from the head of each department. Contact the chairs or heads of departments ranging from theater to biology, requesting a final list of all major events, along with a very short summary of each event.

  • Address any conflicts within the schedule. By putting the master schedule together before the year begins, you can take the time to make sure that major events are not scheduled at the same time. Work with the department heads to eliminate any of these conflicts.

  • Combine these individual schedules onto a single calendar. Cut any events that don't necessarily have any connection to the broader school campus, such as departmental-only parties. Include all open, interest-specific events, such as Film Club meetings.

  • Post the master school schedule on the school's website and distribute it among students and faculty. Also, post the schedule in the visitor's office at your high school or college.
