Cleaning Instructions for a V745A Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier

A Vicks warm mist humidifier model V745A has removable parts that allow cleaning of the components. Daily cleaning takes only a few moments to wipe the humidifier clean and helps to extend the life of the unit. When using this humidifier on a daily basis for extended periods of time, more thorough weekly cleaning is also helpful to maintain a working unit. Cleaning procedures break down naturally occurring chemicals in water so they do not hamper the steaming ability of the humidifier.

Things You'll Need

  • Dry clean cloths
  • White vinegar
  • Bowl
  • Bleach

Daily Cleaning

  • Turn the humidifier off and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Let the humidifier cool for 15 minutes and remove the water tank from the base by lifting it straight up. Pour out any water in the tank and rinse the tank with warm water. Wipe the tank with a clean, dry cloth.

  • Pull the medicine cup straight up to remove from the humidifier and wipe out with a clean cloth. Press the cooling chamber interlock switch to remove the cooling chamber and wipe out with a clean cloth.

  • Slide the removable water tray out from the humidifier and wipe the inside with a clean, dry cloth.

Weekly Cleaning

  • Repeat the daily cleaning procedures to begin. Mix one part vinegar to one part warm water in a bowl and put the removable water tray in the solution. Let it soak for 20 minutes.

  • Pour vinegar into the heating chamber and let it soak for 20 minutes. This removes lime scale from the humidifier in areas that hold water.

  • Pour the vinegar out of the heating chamber and wipe dry with a cloth. Take the water tray out of the solution, rinse with warm water and wipe dry. Reassemble the parts on the humidifier.

Disinfecting the Humidifier

  • Mix 1 gallon of water and 1 tsp. of bleach. Pour the mixture into the water tank and let soak for 20 minutes. Pour the solution out into a clean sink with the stopper engaged and rinse tank with clean water until the bleach odor is not present.

  • Dip a cloth into the sink with the solution and wring it out. Wipe the removable water tray on the inside and outside.

  • Wipe all exterior surfaces with the bleach solution to disinfect them. Let all parts air dry thoroughly before replacing them on the humidifier.
