Instructions

    • 1

Determine which trees onto which you would like to strap your rope lights. You will need to make sure that you have ample distance from the rope lighting and tree to an electrical box into which you can plug the rope light's cord.

    • 2

Attach the rope lighting to a power extension cord if needed. Plug in the rope lighting to make sure all of the bulbs work and to warm up the rope for easy bending. Once the rope has become warmed and flexible, unplug it from the electrical source to begin wrapping around the tree.

    • 3

Place one end of the rope lighting near the top of the tree trunk, and place an end cap on the tip to close the rope tubing. You can typically purchase end caps from the retail store where you purchased your rope lighting.

    • 4

Wind the rope lighting around the trunk of the tree, all the way down to the base. Keep the distance between the rope consistent as you wrap it to create an elegant display. Pull the rope taut to keep it secure against the tree trunk, but avoid pulling on it too hard or the rope on the top of the tree may begin to move around or slide down.

    • 5

Use mounting clips to keep the rope lighting strapped securely in place, if desired. Attach the mounting clips (also found near the rope lighting in retail establishments) to the tree using nails. Determine the intervals or distance between each clip as you wind the rope down the tree, and hammer them into place. Then simply clip the rope light into the brackets.

    • 6

Plug in the rope lighting to the electrical box once the rope is in place.
