How to Locate Residential Sewer Lines in Seattle
For an owner or potential owner of property, it is helpful when doing any building to have an understanding of where the electrical, water and sewer lines are located. If you are building new construction that needs to connect to a sewer line or that cannot be placed on top of a sewer line, you will need to have a map of sewer lines. For Seattle property owners, the Seattle Department of Planning and Development provides an online resource for obtaining sewer line maps. Does this Spark an idea?

Go to the Seattle Department of Planning and Development's website at seattle.gov/dpd/.

Click on "Online Tools."

Click on "Side Sewer Cards & Maps" in the "Mapping Tools" menu.

Enter your address in the address fields to pull up a map of the parcel where your property is located. You will see a digital map with a general color-coded network of sewer lines and also links for the "side sewer card" for the parcel.

Click on the side sewer card links to open an image of the front and back of the card. The front of the side sewer card has a detailed map of sewer lines with measurements. Other helpful information includes streets, buildings, lots and storm drains. The back of the card contains data regarding various changes and inspections that have occurred.

Print the side sewer card. The image is designed for printing on 11-by-17-inch paper, however the image can be saved, opened in software that supports image editing and printing, and resized to be printed on 8.5-by-11-inch paper.

Use the maps as a reference to locate the actual main and side sewer lines at your property.
