How to Create Storyboards for Film or Video
In order to keep track of your shot selection, what occurs in each shot and how the camera/actors move in the shot it is a good idea to create storyboards. A storyboard is single image representations of what your video is going to look like. The picture, when compared to the finished video, looking like the opening frame of each shot. This helps not only you know what to look for in the video, but the director of photography and other key members of the film screw.

1
Draw large rectangles on your paper. Each rectangle represents a shot of your film and video project.
-
2
Write a number next to each rectangle frame, starting with one. This helps you remember the shot order of the production.
-
-
3
Draw what you want the beginning of the shot to look like in the first rectangle. You do no not need to have amazing drawing skills for this. Drawing out stick figures for the characters is completely fine.
-
4
Write down any camera movements you want performed underneath the rectangle. For example, if you want the camera to pan with the character, write this down underneath the rectangle.
-
5
Draw arrows for movement. If the character if moving forward toward the camera draw an arrow pointing from the character to the front of the rectangle. This shows both you and the DP (director of photography) the individual is moving.
