Normal Use
-
1
Secure the apple corer and peeler onto your working surface. Some models come with a clamp that hooks under the edge of the countertop and is tightened. Others have a suction cup that is engaged by putting it on a smooth flat surface and flipping the lever.
-
2
Push down on the lever near the handle of the metal rod and pull the rod away from the rest of the machine to expose the pronged end.
-
-
3
Press the stem end of a firm apple onto the prongs of the metal rod, being sure to keep it centered on the rod. Although some apples are lopsided, you want to make sure that the core of the apple is lined up with the rod so the machine will be able to remove the whole core. The best way to do this is to put a finger on the center of the bottom of the apple while pushing it on, applying pressure to this spot as you try to keep the apple straight.
-
4
Turn the crank handle to bring the apple into contact with the peeling, coring and slicing mechanisms. Continue turning the handle until it stops.
-
5
Place the apple, now peeled, cored and cut into a spiral, into a large bowl of water to prevent it from browning.
-
6
Hold onto the core of the apple as you return the pronged rod to its open position to load the next apple.
Special Techniques
-
7
Adjust the amount of skin the peeler removes by loosening the wing nut on the peeler and moving the blade in or out before tightening the wing nut again.
-
8
Core and slice apples without peeling them by pulling the peeler back until it locks into place.
-
9
Peel apples without coring and slicing them by loosening the bolt that holds the corer and slicer blade in place. Move it to the side, being careful not to cut yourself on the blade. When you are done, return the blade to its usual position, making sure it is centered on the pronged rod.
