How to Hook Up an Auto Amplifier
Most factory stereo systems are underpowered compared to higher quality custom systems. The difference between a premium sound system and a stock stereo is power. The speakers in a custom stereo are designed to easily handle the power generated by the factory stereo. To push the signal to a level that maximizes the potential of your stereo, install an aftermarket amplifier in your vehicle's stereo. The amplifier will boost the signal and provide a louder and clearer signal.
Instructions

-
1
Open the hood of the vehicle. Remove the rubber coverings over the positive and negative battery terminals.
-
2
Loosen the bolts on the battery terminals with the wrench.
-
-
3
Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal. The negative cable serves as a ground for the vehicle's electrical system and should be disconnected before connecting or disconnecting any electrical component.
-
4
Place the ring terminal (from the amplifier wiring kit) onto the positive battery lead post. Tighten the bolt on the positive post to secure the ring terminal in place. Pull the fuse from the fuse holder compartment of the ring terminal.
-
5
Plug the amplifier wiring kit power cord into the ring terminal. The blue cord will serve as a power supply for the amplifier. Route the cord through the firewall of the vehicle, into the inner cabin.
-
6
Remove the stereo from the vehicle's dashboard. Consult your vehicle repair manual for removal procedures. Pull the stereo wiring from the back of the deck. Leave the antenna cable plugged into the stereo.
-
7
Plug the stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter. Plug the adapter leads into the outlets on the rear panel of the stereo.
-
8
Plug the signal cable and turn-on lead cable (included in the amplifier kit) into the wiring harness. Feed the cables through the back of the stereo mounting dock to the floor of the vehicle behind the dashboard.
-
9
Install the stereo into the vehicle's stereo dock.
-
10
Place the amplifier in a location that will allow access to the speakers and provide adequate ventilation for the amp itself. The trunk or rear cargo area is a commonly chosen location.
-
11
Run the cables and power cord to the location of the amp. Plug the wiring into the amplifier at the appropriate outlets.
-
12
Connect speaker wiring from the amplifier and route it to the speakers you choose to amplify. Disconnect the speaker wiring from the back of the speakers and plug in the speaker wire from the amplifier.
-
13
Place the grounding cable back onto the negative battery terminal and tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench. Put the fuse into the fuse compartment on the ring terminal and close the hood of the vehicle.
