Change the battery in your remote entry car key.

Many cars and trucks today come standard with keyless entry remote systems. With keyless entry, a remote fob uses a transmitter to open and lock doors, set your car alarm and sound a panic alarm. Eventually the battery in your key remote will wear out and you'll need to change it.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at your key fob. Some have a battery cover with a notch. Others have a notch on the side. And some have small screws holding the fob together.

    • 2

Open the fob to access the battery. For fobs with notches, use a small coin to either turn the battery cover or pry the two pieces apart. For fobs with screws, remove the screws and open the fob.

    • 3

Remove the old battery. Be careful not to touch any of the electrical components.

    • 4

Insert the new battery. For most fobs, you insert the battery with the positive sign side up. Check with your owner's manual for the correct way to insert the battery.

    • 5

      Reassemble the key fob.
