How to Increase Insoles
If you have a job that requires you to be on your feet for many hours during the day or if you exercise regularly, you may need to increase the amount of padding on the insoles of your shoes by adding therapeutic shoe inserts. A surefire sign that you need to increase your insole padding is mild back pain, foot corns and arch pain in the center of you foot. If you have severe back pain or have had foot surgery, you may need to consult a podiatrist to have custom inserts made specifically for your feet. However, for increasing general shoe comfort and reducing minor aches and pains associated with a lack of insole support, a basic gel insert is an effective way to remedy thin insoles.

1
Asses which shoes need increased insole padding. Gel inserts are manufactured to fit into specific types of shoes. For instance, an insert that is made for a high heel will be thinner than one made for an athletic shoe. Make a note of the types of shoes that you wish to remedy.

2
Purchase gel insole inserts for your shoes. Inserts can be purchased from a shoe store, the shoe department of most major department stores, or a drug store. You can also find them in your local Walmart or Target stores. Make sure that you purchase inserts to fit your shoe. This means that you should check the insert's packaging for shoe size and type. If your shoes are slightly loose, purchase an insert that states that is it the same size as your shoe. If your shoes are slightly tight, purchase an insert that is one size smaller than the shoe to maintain enough room for your foot within the shoe.

Slide the insert into your shoe. Try the shoe on with the insert in place to make sure that it is a good fit. If your shoe fits too tightly or if the insole insert is uncomfortable, you may need to return the insert for a different thickness or brand.
