How to Operate an iPod Nano FM Transmitter

How to Operate an iPod Nano FM Transmitter thumbnail
An iPod Nano FM transmitter is another way to listen to music.

An iPod Nano FM transmitter gives you the option of listening to music saved on the Nano through the speakers inside of your car. The FM transmitter is necessary as many vehicles do not have a USB plug-in that allow you to connect an FM transmitter directly to your car stereo. Using an iPod Nano FM transmitter can be very convenient if you find yourself in the car on a daily basis or if you are taking a long trip.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the iPod Nano to the FM transmitter. The player connects to the transmitter using the iPod's USB cable or via the transmitter's iPod dock (depending on the FM transmitter you use).

    • 2

Plug the other end of the iPod Nano FM transmitter into the car's cigarette lighter adapter (sometimes called the "AUX" plug-in).

    • 3

Set the car's FM radio to a non-broadcasting station. Many FM transmitter user manuals suggest using stations between 87.1 FM and 88.9 FM.

    • 4

Press the "Channel" buttons on the FM transmitter in order to change the transmitter's station to the exact station on the car radio. For example, if you set the car radio to 87.3 FM, the FM transmitter's station should also be 87.3 FM.

    • 5

Begin playing music on your iPod Nano. You should hear the music through the speakers in your car.

Tips & Warnings

  • The FM transmitter will only work if your car is on.

  • Some FM transmitters must be turned on by pressing a "Power" or "On/Off" switch found on the transmitter.
