How to Install a Filter on an Above-Ground Pool
An important part of keeping a swimming pool clean and clear is to use a filter. The filter's job is to trap dirt, debris, algae and other particles from the swimming water. 1
Disconnect the power supply to the pool pump by turning the circuit breaker that controls the pump off or unplugging the electrical cord.
-
2
Place the filter on a level area about 2 feet away from the pool pump and 2 feet away from the pool sidewall where the return jet is located. Create a level space, if needed, using paving stones and a leveling tool.

3
Connect the pool pump's outlet valve to the pool filter's inlet valve, using a 3-foot piece of tool hose. The extra foot gives some slack for the water to flow. The valves are labeled or you can refer to the owner's manual for a descriptive diagram. Use a hose clamp on each end of the hose to secure the hose to the unit. Use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the clamps.

4
Connect the pool filter outlet valve to the pool return jet with another piece of 3-foot pool hose. Use two hose clamps to secure both ends of the hose and tighten with the screwdriver.
-
5
Plug the electrical cord in or turn the circuit breaker on to restore power.
