All of the television broadcast signals sent from full-power stations changed from analog to digital on June 12, 2009. However, not every television set is capable of displaying digital signals. These TVs need a digital-to-analog converter box, or what is often referred to as a converter box or DTV converter box, hooked to them in order to watch television programming. If you also have a DVD player, this completely separate connection does not go through the converter box.

Step 1

Turn off and unplug the digital converter box, DVD player and TV. Put the DTV box and the DVD player on or near the television.

Step 2

Take the coaxial cable already connected to the TV from your antenna off and then connect it to the back of the DTV box's "Antenna In" jack. Use the second coaxial cable to connect the "Out to TV" on the converter box to the "Antenna In" on the back of the television.

Step 3

Connect one end of the RCA audio/video cable to the back of the DVD player and the other end to the TV. Use the "A/V Out" jacks on the DVD player and the "A/V In" jacks on the television. Insert the red connector in the red jack, the white in the white jack and the yellow in the yellow jack on both ends of the cable.

Step 4

Plug the DTV converter box and TV into a wall outlet and turn them on. Follow the directions provided with the digital TV converter box to finish the installation, which typically requires scanning for channels. Most boxes provide on-screen instructions.

Step 5

Turn on the DVD player and insert a DVD. Change the "Input" or "Source" on your television to watch the DVD.
