How to Send Rose Plants

Save money by sending a rose plant without using a professional florist.

Sending roses in a flower pot isn't a difficult task. Properly packaging and preparing the rose plant will ensure a secure transit. Check with your local nursery about the shipping regulations of the state where you are sending the rose plant.

Things You'll Need

• Plastic flower pot
• Newspaper
• Burlap
• Box
• Corrugated divider
• Bubble wrap

Instructions

Prepare the Rose Plant

1. Transplant the rose into a plastic flower pot for safe travel.

2. Water the rose plant thoroughly the day before you send it as well as the day you package it so the soil will stay moist.

3. Wrap newspaper around the pot and place burlap over the rose plant. This will secure the soil from spilling out and keep the plant moist.

Secure the Rose Plant

1. Place the newspaper-wrapped pot inside of a plastic bag. Secure the top opening of the bag around the stem of the rose plant with a piece of yarn or twine.

2. Secure the pot inside of the shipping box using a corrugated divider. The shipping center or post office should have these available. The corrugated divider will lock the pot in place, preventing movement while being shipped. Place the corrugated divider inside of the shipping box. If there is any remaining space to fill, add bubble wrap to further prevent movement.

3. Tape the box closed and address it appropriately. Mail it overnight for a fast delivery.

Tips & Warnings

• According to Federal Express, pack plants for a minimum of 30 hours transit time.
