How to Find the Code for Keypad Entry to a Stanley Garage Door

Jessica Jewell

The keypad entry system for a Stanley garage door allows you to operate your garage door by entering a 4-digit access code. If you have lost or forgotten your access code, you can easily reprogram your keypad entry system by returning the access code to the original factory setting then choosing a new 4-digit access code.

Identify Your Garage Door Type

  1. Look at the back of the Stanley garage door's opener, which should be hanging in your garage.

  2. If you see "LEARN" on the remote button, you have a "Secure Code" opener. Skip to the steps for "Secure Code Opener."

  3. If you see toggle switches or jumper wires, you have a "Digital" opener. Skip to the steps for "Digital Opener."

Secure Code Opener

  1. On the keypad, press the "Access Learn" and "Radio Learn" buttons together and hold for 10 seconds.

  2. The access code is now set to 1-2-3-4.

  3. Set a new secure code by pressing the "Access Learn" key on the keypad twice. The red light on the keypad should stay on.

  4. Enter the code 1-2-3-4.

  5. Enter a new four-digit access code of your choice and press "Access Learn" once. The red light should turn off. If the red light remains on, enter the new code again and press "Access Learn."

Digital Opener

  1. Look carefully at the opener's toggle switches or jumper wires. For each toggle switch that is closed, write down the number below it. For each jumper wire that is not cut, write down the number below it.

Example: If the switches numbered 3, 6, 7 and 9 are closed, write down 3-6-7-9. If jumper wires 2, 4, 6 and 9 are uncut, write down 2-4-6-9.

Note: If all the toggles are open or all the jumper wires are clipped, the opener cannot be used.

  2. Set a new secure code: press the "Access Learn" and "Radio Learn" buttons on the keypad together and hold for 10 seconds.

  3. The access code is now 0-0-0-0.

  4. Press the "Radio Learn" key on the keypad twice.

  5. Enter the code you wrote down from your power unit and press "Radio Learn" once. The red light on the keypad should turn off. If the red light flashes for a few seconds, re-enter the number and press "Radio Learn."
