How to Play Emulator Games on My PSP

How to Play Emulator Games on My PSP thumbnail
You can play tons of classic console games on the PSP with emulators.

Emulators are typically placed onto a computer, allowing you to play classic consoles like the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64. Usually it takes a higher powered computer to run these, but because of the PSP's higher processing power--for a portable device--they have been ported to Sony's portable video gaming device. Using emulators on the PSP cannot be done without a little modding first. You will need to install custom firmware on the PSP in order to take advantage of this new feature.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PSP. Remove the battery and memory stick and replace them with the magic memory stick and Pandora battery in that order. Your PSP will turn on by itself. Press the "X" button twice to install custom firmware. When asked, press the "X" button again to shut off the PSP. Remove the magic memory stick and Pandora battery and reinsert the normal ones. Turn the PSP back on and you will be running custom firmware.

Download one of the emulators from the resource link in this guide. All of these emulators will work with the PSP since they are made solely for the device.

    • 3

Connect your PSP to your computer with the USB cable and your PSP will automatically go into USB mode. A window will appear on the computer, and you will see the files on your PSP memory stick.

    • 4

Open the "PSP" folder and you will see a "GAME" folder. This is where all of these emulators will be stored. Right-click the emulator that you downloaded and click "Copy."

    • 5

Right-click the "GAME" folder and click "Paste" to transfer the emulator to your PSP memory stick. When the transfer completes, press the "O" button on the PSP to safely remove it from the computer.

    • 6

Navigate through the PSP menu and you will now see the emulator in the game section. Select the emulator with the "X" button to start the emulator and to play all of your favorite classic console games.
