Apply for Federal Medical Grants

Healthcare costs can be steep, and with over 46 General Health and Medical Services federal grants and government loans available, it's wise for one to know their options before paying medical bills out of pocket.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact a government grant center, like FederalGrantsWire, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or Grants.gov. You can contact these sites by phone, but their websites are even more user-friendly and have listings of a wide range of medical grants available both for individuals and non-profit agencies looking to provide medical services. This is where you will find the applications for the specific grant that caters to your needs.

    • 2

Verify your eligibility. There is no need to waste time filling out a grant application for assistance only provided to organizations, or members of a special interest group to with which you have no formal affiliation. Once you have sifted through all of the medical grant listings and highlighted the ones you feel best apply to your condition, verify that you are eligible for the grant by contacting the organization directly. Usually all of the information--including eligibility, the award process, and application deadlines--are posted directly on the listing, but it doesn't hurt to take an extra initiative with the grant provider for more information.

    • 3

Print, fill out, and sign the application. In most cases, the medical grant you will be applying for will be accessible as a PDF form through a link located on the site providing it. If you are not familiar with signing documents online, you can print the PDF out as a paper copy and fill it out by hand. Depending on the eligibility requirements of the specific grant you are trying to get, you might have to provide your medical history, as well as your tax return for the previous fiscal year to show you meet certain need based requirements.

    • 4

Fax, mail, e-mail your information to the provider. This is entirely dependent on what expectations the grant provider specifies in the application process section of their listing. The key point here is to make sure you have thoroughly reviewed all of your information to make sure it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and then submit the application before the deadline.
