How to Set the Dye in Black Clothing
Setting the dye in black clothing is important to do prior to washing a garment for the first time. Black clothing tends to fade easily since it is a dark color. The reason black clothing fades easily is that many manufacturers skip the rinse step during the dying process. If the fabric was not rinsed during the dying process, the color has not been set and it will run. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings
You can purchase Retayne at craft stores, fabric stores online and at quilting stores. You can use it on all colors of dye, not just black.
If you would prefer to use a natural product, substitute 1 cup vinegar for the Retayne.
The best way to air dry black clothing is to use a towel rack instead of a hanger. Wet clothing can stretch out of shape if it is hanging on a hanger. The water adds weight to the fabric which causes it is to stretch out.
Read the directions on any store-bought fixatives such as Retayne and laundry detergent. The labels give you information on safety precautions that you should take while using the products.
