How to Take Apart a Glock 22
When Gaston Glock heard about an Austrian contest to produce a new sidearm in 1982 he leaped at the chance to do what he did best. Glock was not a gun manufacturer, but rather an engineer specializing in durable lightweight plastics. Despite an initial lack of trust in guns made of plastic, Glock represents a large amount of the 9 mm/ .22 caliber market. Taking apart a Glock 22 is an important step in proper gun maintenance. This can be done without any specialized tools, as this was a condition for the contest, which Glock won.

Make sure your pistol is unloaded with the magazine out and no bullet in the chamber. Pull back the slide until it locks to check for a bullet in the chamber.

2
Fully depress the trigger and grab the pistol with your fingers around the top of the slide and your thumb around the back of the slide. Your thumb should touch the side of your index finger. Apply gentle but steady pressure. While you are doing this look of a small lever on the left side on the gun, if the gun is pointing away from you as it should be. Flick this lever down. The slide should come off. Remove the slide.

3
Pull out the recoil spring at the front of the slide.

4
Remove the barrel. Your weapon is now field stripped.

5
Pick up the slide with the back toward you. Look at the bottom of the slide. Put the small metal rod into the slot at the bottom of the slide and pull down gently. While applying this pressure, use your thumb to push off the back slide plate.

6
Pull out the firing pin and the extractor plunger. You should be able to simply pull them out.
-
7
Look at the slide from the side where the cartridges are ejected. The extractor is the small piece of metal in the open part of the slide. Place the rod inside and push to the side. The extractor should pop out.
-
8
Looking at the right side of the rest of the pistol, you should see three small holes, one on the grip, and two under where the slide attaches. Place your small metal rod into each of these holes and tap with the mallet to force these pins out the other side. Remove these pins.
-
9
Lift the metal piece in the center out. This is the slide lock. Next to this is a metal box. This is the locking block. Place the metal rod inside and pull up to slide the locking block out.
-
10
Wiggle out the trigger bar, located at the back of the pistol.
-
11
Push the small metal rod against the spring in the center of the pistol. This will free the trigger. Both should fall out of the pistol.
