How to Clean a Black & Decker Steam Iron
Irons can accumulate debris or residue from starch, fabric softener, synthetic fibers and frequent use. Steam vents on a Black & Decker steam iron also become clogged with mineral deposits over time. Use the high heat self-cleaning method to remove buildup. Clean the heat plate and outer surfaces with mild dish soap and water. Clean the iron monthly to keep it in top shape. Basic Cleaning

Unplug the iron and wait for it to cool.

Dampen a cloth with warm water and add 2 or 3 drops of dish soap.

Wipe the metal surface of the iron with the cloth, removing all of the residue. Clean the handle, controls and buttons.

Rinse the cloth in warm water, wring it out and wipe the entire surface of the iron to remove the soap.

Dry the iron with a clean, dry cloth.
Self-Cleaning Method

Fill the water tank to the max line in a cool iron and plug it in.

Turn the iron on and set the dial to high heat. Wait for the iron to heat completely.

Hold the iron with the heat plate facing down over a sink. Press and hold the steam button until all of the water is evaporated. Shake the iron side to side with the button pressed to remove all of the water.

Set the iron upright on a safe surface and leave the heat on for two minutes to dry out any remaining water.
