Pool Vacuum Directions

Pool Vacuum Directions thumbnail
Vacuum your pool regularly to help it maintain optimum clarity.

Regardless of the location of your swimming pool, dirt, grass and leaves carried by the wind will eventually end up in the water. Over time, floating debris that your pool skimmer doesn't pick up sinks to the bottom, creating an unattractive pile of organic waste material. Although this problem is more prevalent in pools that are located in heavily wooded areas, every swimming pool needs to be cleaned periodically. Vacuuming your pool clears away the leaves, dead insects, dirt and any other unwanted material that sinks to the bottom to restore your pool's beauty and cleanliness. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Switch your pool's suction line valve to the correct port. This is only necessary if you have more than one skimmer. Set the suction line valve for the skimmer that you plan to hook up to the pool vacuum.

    • 2

Attach the vacuum brush head to the vacuum pole and check to ensure that the two pieces are firmly locked in place. A loose vacuum head can result in reduced suction.

    • 3

Slide one end of the vacuum hose over the raised port on the vacuum brush head.

    • 4

Place the vacuum head into the deep end of the pool and allow it to sink to the bottom. Fill the end of the vacuum hose that isn't attached to the brush head with water by holding it over one of the water circulation valves at the side of the pool. You may also enter the pool and hold the hose underwater until water rises to the top of the vacuum pole.

    • 5

Attach the skimmer adapter to the top of the skimmer basket. The adapter allows you to use the skimmer's suction to vacuum your pool without removing the skimmer basket. Hook the vacuum hose to the skimmer adapter's open port by sliding the open end of the hose over the raised port.

    • 6

Move the vacuum slowly along the bottom of the pool, making sure not to stir up significant piles of dirt and debris.

    • 7

Check the skimmer basket or leaf trap periodically. If your pool is particularly dirty, you may need to dump the skimmer basket as it fills up with debris from the bottom of the pool.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have multiple skimmers, use plugs to block the skimmer valves you aren't using. This will give your pool vacuum increased suction.

  • If you use a sand filter, do not backwash your pool for several hours prior to vacuuming. This stirs up the sand and can make vacuuming less effective.
