How to Make a TV Get 1080P Over a Component Cable
1080P refers to the resolution of 1920x1080, which is one of the most popular high-definition resolutions. HDMI cables and component cables are capable of carrying a 1080P signal, but you need to set up the device outputting the video to send it in 1080P.

Connect the HDTV to the HD device using the component cables. The cables are color-coded (red, green and blue) to match the jacks to which they should be inserted. For instance, the green component cable will be plugged into the green component output jack on the rear of the HD device and the other end will be plugged into the green component input jack on the HDTV.

Turn on the TV and the HD device. Press the "Input," "Source," or "TV/Video" button on the HDTV or the HDTV remote several times until the HD device is displayed on the screen.

Press settings on the HD device or on its remote.

Select the display options.

Set the output resolution to 1080P. Make sure to save the changes and exit the settings menu.

Tips & Warnings
In addition to the component cables, you will need to connect RCA cables to hear the audio from the HD device. These cables will be red and white, and will connect in the same manner as the component cables.
