Obtaining your employment history may require some research.

If you have changed jobs frequently, it can be easy to forget some of your previous employers. But at some point, you may need this information, such as when completing a loan or job application. Your current or last employer can give your employment history. But it would be based on what you stated on your job application. You can get a detailed account of your employment history with your Social Security number.

Instructions

Run a background check using your Social Security number. A background check confirms your Social Security number, previous employers and related employment dates. It can also include your credit, driving and criminal history records, and people you know. Some background-check companies also offer drug-screening services to employers. Delivery time and fees vary by company.

Complete the Social Security Administration's (SSA) Form-7050, Request for Social Security Earnings Information. Visit the SSA's website and search for the form. Include your Social Security number on the form. Check the Detailed Earnings Box and the number of years you want the employment history search to span. Your fee depends on the latter. Mail the form and your fee to the SSA.
