How to Change Brown Grass Into Green with Photoshop
Impress your out of town in-laws with your gardening skills; take a digital photograph of your brown, drab lawn and turn it green with Photoshop software. Use Photoshop's Layers capability and color-correction tools to change the grass color without altering your original photograph. Load in your picture and isolate the area you want to change. Use the Levels adjustments to tweak color and blend your changes seamlessly with the rest of your image. Save your file, print it and mail it to those you wish to impress.

Open Photoshop and load in your image. Choose "Layer" and "Duplicate Layer" from the Menu Bar.

Choose "Select" and "Color Range" from the Menu Bar. The "Color Range" options window opens. Select "Sampled Colors" from the pull down select bar. Click on your image on top of the area you want to alter. The "Preview" box within the "Color Range" window displays the current mask created based on your selection.

Move the "Fuzziness" slider to the right to increase the range of your matte selection. Move the "Fuzziness" slider to the left to decrease the range of your matte selection. Click on the "Plus Eyedropper" tool and then click on your image to add to your matte. Click on the "Minus Eyedropper and click on your image to remove specified areas from your mask.

Choose "Select" and "Feather" then type "10" in the "Feather Radius" box. Click "OK" to accept the settings. Choose "Select" and "Save Selection." the "Save Selection" dialog box opens. Choose "Background Copy Mask" from the "Channel" pull down options bar. Click "OK" to close the dialog box. A black and white icon of your mask appears next to your image window in the "Layers Control" palette. This icon represents your current layer mask.

Choose "Image," "Adjust" and "Levels" from the Menu bar. The "Levels" dialog box opens. Change the "Channel Menu" from "RGB" to "Green." Locate the rightmost arrow on the slider just under the "Histogram" graph. Click on it an pull it to the left. Your grass starts to turn green. Pull the slider further to the left until you get the intensity of green you want.

Find the "Output Levels" slider at the bottom of the "Levels" dialog window. Click on the "Output Levels" slider's left side arrow. Pull the arrow to the right. Notice that shaded areas of grass turn greener.

Choose "Layer" and "Flatten Image." Save your file and print it out on the printer.

Tips & Warnings
Turn your lawn a warmer shade of green by choosing "Blue" from the "Channels" pull down bar in the "Levels" dialog box. Move the rightmost arrow on the "Histogram" slider bar to the left to give a sunset tone to the lawn.
