Many people are afraid of the system32 folder. Despite this folder containing many important operating system files, it's still fairly safe to look into this folder. The operating system protects these files from being altered or deleted, so it's very hard to damage the operating system. The ntoskrnl.exe is just one of many important files located inside this folder.

      Turn on the PC, if necessary.

      Open "My Computer" (or "Computer" on Windows Vista/7).

      Click on the "WINDOWS" folder, then click on "system32."

      Scroll down to the files starting with "N" and "ntoskrnl.exe" should be within that group.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the file ntoskrnl.exe is missing, you can recover the file using your operating system's install disk.

  • This file should not be deleted in any circumstance.
