Instructions

    • 1

Remove the power cord from the back of your computer at the power supply. This will be a thick, black cord that runs to a electrical socket. Removing it from the power supply on the PC will disconnect power from the computer which could result in electrical shock or damage to components if not done.

    • 2

Remove the cover of the computer case. A newer case will have a quick-release latch that will require no tools to remove the cover. Older cases will have the cover attached by screws that will need to be removed in order to remove the cover from the chassis.

    • 3

Ground yourself by touching something metal to prevent static discharge. Static discharge can damage electronic components like network adapters. You can also ground yourself by using a grounding strap. This will go on your wrist and a cord on the wrist strap will attach to something metal. This will keep your grounded during the entire process.

Install the Linksys network adapter. The connection ports on the card will go towards the back of the case, and the bottom of the card will slide into a PCI slot. The PCI slot is located towards the back of the motherboard. The Linksys card will attach to the back of the computer case with a single screw by its bracket.

    • 5

Seal the case by reinstalling the cover removed earlier.

    • 6

Reattach the power cord into the power supply on the back of the computer.

    • 7

Turn on the computer by pressing the power button on the PC.

    • 8

Install the drivers for the Linksys network adapter. When the operating system loads, it will detect the new network adapter. It will begin an installation process. Eventually, it will ask you for the location of the drivers for the network adapter. Place the CD provided by LinkSys into the CDROM player, and the installation will finish installing the card.
