Instructions

    • 1

Gather the best large pine cones you can find. The best size is about 3 or 4 inches tall. You want fat pine cones, not the little skinny ones. Let them dry until the cones are completely open. This helps in the crafting.

    • 2

Wrap a wick into the middle of the cone and around the cone bringing the wick up to the top. Leave 2 inches of wick sticking out of the top of each pine cone. This will be to start the fire when they are finished.

    • 3

Set up a double boiler on the stove with water in the bottom. According to Cascade Cones, you can put a large coffee can in a pot of water on the stove. This will keep you from messing up a good double boiler. Turn the heat on low.

    • 4

Put wax into the pot and slowly let the double boiler melt the wax. Get new wax, candle pieces, or use several old used candles. Make the wax deeper than your largest cone. Add some essential oils to the wax and you will give them a wonderful scent everyone will enjoy.

    • 5

Put a large piece of waxed paper on the table. When the wax is ready, dip each cone by the wick and cover with the wax. Hold the cone over the melted wax until it quits dripping. Sit the cone on the waxed paper. Let it harden.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the wick is wrapped into the pine cone so you can hold it by the wick to dip it in the wax.

  • Be careful with hot wax. This craft must be monitored by an adult.
