How Can I Make Fresh Log Christmas Centerpieces?

A variety of embellishments can be used to make a fresh log Christmas centerpiece.

Christmas logs are as traditional as the tree itself. For centuries, large yule logs have burned in fireplaces, marking long, festive celebrations. Although this Christmas log centerpiece isn't for burning, it makes for an interesting and beautiful focal point for any table or fireplace.

Things You'll Need

• Pine log
• Bow
• Ribbon
• Hot glue gun
• Holly berries
• Christmas ornaments
• Pine branches
• Pine cones
• Ax (optional)

Instructions

1. 

   Pine logs add a festive scent to Christmas decor.

   Cut or purchase a large, fresh pine log for the base of the decoration. Choose a size that is appropriate for the area you plan to display the arrangement.

2. 

   Gather your pine cones and branches outdoors.

   Lay the log on your working space horizontally. Arrange pine branches and pine cones along the sides of the log, draping the branches over the bark. Glue in place with a hot glue gun. Add holly leaves and berries if you like.

3. 

   Choose ready-made bows or make your own.

   Glue a large bow in the center of the branches. A matching length of ribbon also may be woven through the pine branches. Choose colors to match the decor of the room in which the arrangement will be displayed.

4. 

   Give leftover ornaments and decorations new life.

   Add Christmas ornaments to the log using the hot glue gun. Choose colors that match the bows and ribbon. Use balls, miniature wrapped presents or any ornament that is generally placed on a Christmas tree.

5. Place the Christmas log centerpiece in an open fireplace that is not in use. Smaller arrangements can be displayed on tables or in other areas of the home.
