How to Get a Business License in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Starting a new business requires a lot of preparation and research. One step you should not forget is to obtain the required business licenses. If you are planning on opening a business in Pittsburgh you may need a license from the city, depending on the type of business you are starting. Navigate to the city of Pittsburgh's website. (See Resources.)

Click on the "Departments" link in the navigation pane at the top of the website. When you click on this link it will take you to a listing of Pittsburgh city departments. Select the Bureau of Building Inspection link. The bureau handles business licensing.

Click on the link for "License Information." This link will take you to a list of businesses that are required to be licensed. Examples of such businesses are: pawnbrokers, junk dealers, pool halls, amusement places, transient vendors, street vendors, parking lots, and bed and breakfast establishments. Click on the type of license for which you would like to apply. Scroll through the list and see whether the business you are planning on starting requires a license. If it does, click on the link on the page, and more detailed instructions will be given, including the appropriate fee and what other documents are necessary. In most instances a link to a copy of the license application will be found on the page. Complete the application and submit it to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Building Inspections with the necessary fee and the other required documents.
