How to Seek a Work Visa for the UAE

How to Seek a Work Visa for the UAE thumbnail
A work visa is required for all United States citizens who wish to work in the UAE.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become a global economic center. Many people travel to cities such as Dubai to advance career goals and take positions that may have more opportunities than in the United States. For those seeking a work visa for the UAE, the process involves finding a job within the UAE and then having your employer file the work visa with the UAE immigration services. Finding a job in the UAE can be difficult for those seeking employment outside of the fields of employment that the UAE specifically needs.

Instructions

Investigate jobs available in the UAE in the fields of construction, architecture and engineering that state upfront that they will sponsor a work visa. As of 2010 there were several jobs available in engineering and construction. The UAE's development into a more westernized nation has made it so that architecture and construction constantly change. Labor as well as management is needed to help enact these changes effectively. Most of these positions can be found online.

Look for jobs that promote teaching English as a second language. Most such jobs will not only sponsor your work visa, but also offer free airfare, housing and accommodations for the duration of the contract. Much like the construction opportunities, teaching English in the UAE is promoted because of the increasing need for westernization in the UAE. There are several opportunities that can be found online.

Obtain a valid national passport. After securing a position with your employer in the UAE, you must provide a valid national passport before the UAE will allow you to enter, and before the UAE will process your work visa. A valid national passport issued by your country of citizenship should have at least one blank page, be valid for at least six months after your intended date of entry into the UAE, and must not have a visa stamp from Israel within the passport. If you are traveling with dependants, each one must have his own valid national passport.

Obtain records or transcripts of your qualifications for the position that you are accepting in the UAE. This can be done with school educational records, or a transcript or letter from your previous employer stating your training, experience and qualifications.

    • 5

Collect any other documentation that you may need. If you are traveling with your spouse, you need a marriage certificate for the UAE to grant you a work visa as well as a temporary residency visa for your spouse. If you are a woman accepting a position in the UAE and you are traveling with your children, you must be able to provide a notorized letter or some form of documentation stating approval from the father of the children that you can travel with the children.

Make sure that your employer files the proper paperwork for your work visa. The work visa application is not the responsibility of the employee, but it is the responsibility of the employer. To obtain a work visa, you must make sure that your employer processes and files all appropriate paperwork with the UAE immigration services.
