Chrome rims' shiny, mirror-like appearance comes from a thin layer of chromium plated over another metal such as aluminum. Chrome rims can build up dirt, brake dust, and road salt which dulls the finish. Clean your chrome rims regularly with mild soap and use chrome polish to remove any buildup.

Things You'll Need

• Hose
• Bucket
• Dish soap
• Sponge
• Soft toothbrush
• Towel
• Hot chrome polish
• Chamois

Instructions

1. Spray the rims with the hose to rinse away any loose dirt.

2. Fill a bucket with water and a small amount of dish soap. Wipe the rims with a soapy sponge, rinsing it out in the bucket as necessary. Use a soft toothbrush to reach any small areas.

3. Rinse the rims thoroughly with the hose. Dry them well with a towel.

4. Apply a small amount of chrome polish to the rims with a chamois. Allow it to sit for a minute or two until it turns hazy. Rub the rims in small, circular motions until the chrome shines. Apply a second coat of polish if there's a large amount of buildup.

Tips & Warnings

• Use chrome polish made specifically for high temperatures. Friction causes the rims to heat up, which can make regular polishes or waxes appear hazy.
