Add a smile to your instant messages using Windows Live Messenger emoticons.

Emoticons, often called "smiley faces," are a lighthearted way to add a little emotion to your instant messenger conversations. Windows Live Messenger (formerly called MSN Messenger) will automatically translate the text form of many common emoticons to an animated graphic version. You can add a smile, a frown and more to dress up your instant messenger text.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Windows Live Messenger and sign in with your user name and password.

    • 2

Click on the screen name of the person with whom you would like to chat.

    • 3

Insert emoticons into your chat by typing the text shortcuts or by clicking on the "smiley face" icon below your text box in the chat window. Some common shortcuts are :) to make a smile, :( for a frown and ;) for a wink. You can see the text shortcut for each emoticon by clicking on the "smiley face" icon and hovering over each emoticon; the shortcut will appear below it along with a brief description.
