How to Hook up Four Kicker Subwoofers to an Amp

Speaker wire is used to connect the subwoofers to the amplifier.

Installing four Kicker subwoofers to an amplifier can be a tricky proposition. Most amplifiers are designed to hole one or two subwoofers rather than four. However, a higher-end amplifier can power four subwoofers if it has a power output that is equal to the needs of the four subwoofers, if it is stable at 2 ohms, and if the subwoofers are wired in parallel. Wiring in parallel reduces the impedance of the subwoofers, which is the amount of resistance that the power flowing to the subwoofer faces.

Things You'll Need

  • Speaker wire
  • 4 Kicker subwoofers
  • Amplifier
  • Wire cutter
  • Wire stripper
  • 2 2-subwoofer boxes
  • 1.5-inch screws

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four 2-foot sections of speaker wire. Strip a half-inch of rubber sheath from each end of the speaker wire. Speaker wire contains two individual wires within one sheath, so separate these two wires.

    • 2

Wire two subwoofers together in parallel. Connect one speaker wire to the port of the terminal cup and to the positive terminal of the first subwoofer. Connect another length of speaker wire from the positive port of subwoofer one to the positive port of subwoofer two. Connect the the negative port of the terminal cup to the negative port of the first subwoofer. Connect another length of speaker wire from the negative port of the first subwoofer to that of the second subwoofer. Place the subwoofers in the opening of the subwoofer box and fasten them in place using screws.

    • 3

Wire the two remaining subwoofers in a separate box in the same manner as the first set of subwoofers.

    • 4

Cut one section of 2-foot-long speaker wire but do not separate the wires. Connect the terminal cup of one of the subwoofer boxes to channel one of the amplifier. Be sure to only attach one of the wires to positive terminals and the other wire to only negative terminals.

    • 5

Repeat the previous step to attach the second subwoofer box to channel two of the amplifier.
