The Google Books projects scans books and provides search tools.

Google Books is a digital library service that catalogs digital, or electronic, books. Launched in 2004, the service provides a method for searching the pages of millions of books. In the event books are categorized "public view" or the copyright owner consents, the books are available in "full view" for download. Google provides a portable document format (PDF) version of each book available for download. You must have Adobe Reader installed to view downloaded Google ebooks.

      Go to the Google Books website. See the Resources section for a link to Google Books.

      Open the "Advanced Search" feature. Click the "Advanced Search" link next to the "Search" button. A new page opens and requests advanced search information.

      Enter your search term. In the search text box, enter the keyword for the topic, author or book title. You can use several keywords to locate relevant material. For example, to search for information on German shepherd dog, entering specific keywords like "German shepherd dog service" or "service training, German shepherd" will return relevant information on service shepherds. Click the "Full View Only" radio button once you enter your keywords.

      Search and review the results. Click the "Search" button to begin your search. The search results page lists books related to your search terms. Select a book you would like to download by clicking the title link. The book opens in a new window allowing you to read the available pages.

      Download the ebook. In the upper right hand corner, click the "PDF" link. Your Internet browser downloads a portable document format (PDF) version of the ebook. To view the book, you must have Adobe Reader installed. See the Resources section for a link to this free product.
