How to Remove an Awning From a Camper
The awning on a camper provides shade and shelter from light rains. As an awning ages, it may need minor repairs. Even with proper maintenance and repairs, it will eventually need to be replaced. You can remove the old awning at home. If you intend to replace the awning, it is less expensive to remove the awning before taking the camper to have a new awning installed. - Awning rod
- 2 cotter pins

Unlock the travel locks on the arms of the awning. Place the cam lock in the "Down" position. Place the end of an awning rod into the loop on the end of the pull strap and slowly pull the awning out. Open the awning far enough to make the roller ends easily accessible. Place the cam lock in "Lock" position.

Lock the tension on the spring. Locate the hole on the end cap behind the locking mechanism. Rotate the inner shaft of the awning to line up the holes and insert a cotter pin. Grasp the end of the pin and bend it so that it will remain in place. Locate the holes on the opposite end and insert a second cotter pin. Bend the cotter pin.

Unscrew the lag bolt with a screwdriver. It is located on the rafter at the top of the awning assembly. Remove the lag bolt on the other rafter.

Unscrew the screws secure the awning fabric. These screws are located on the rails on each end of the awning.

Grasp the awning arms. Have a second person hold the awning arm on the opposite end. Remove the ends of the awning arms from the foot on the side of the camper. Hold the awning tightly to keep it from falling.

Move the awning away from the camper. Continue to hold the awning tightly and ease it onto the ground.

Tips & Warnings
If you are storing the awning, place it on a flat surface with the arms extended over the top or laid flat in front of the awning.
Do not attempt to disassemble the shaft of the awning without securing the internal springs with cotter pins.
