How to Identify Ford Mustang Emblems

How to Identify Ford Mustang Emblems thumbnail
The Mustang look may have changed over the years, but the "running pony" has remained.

The Ford Mustang is one of the classic muscle cars. As such, it can sometimes be confused with other classic cars. The car's emblem---a powerful sprinting horse that always faces to the left---is a sure way to identify a Ford Mustang. But the emblem, sometimes called the "running pony," may not always appear where you expect it to.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the front of the vehicle. The emblem may be visible on the grill, but some car owners remove that emblem.

    • 2

Look at the back of the vehicle if the emblem is not on the front. The second emblem proclaiming that the vehicle is indeed a Ford Mustang is usually near the trunk.

    • 3

Examine the emblem. The Mustang emblem depicts a horse with its neck stretching forward and its mane and tail flying. The horse's front legs are poised under it, with the back legs stretched forward in mid-gallop. The emblems are usually a shiny chrome color.

Check the sides, front and back of the vehicle for any Mustang logos in addition to the emblem if you're still uncertain whether the emblem is authentic.
