How to Turn a Silver Mesh Purse Gold

How to Turn a Silver Mesh Purse Gold thumbnail
A gold mesh purse.

Perhaps you bought a smart mesh purse last season in silver, but this year you want to change up your wardrobe and paint the purse gold. If you consider how much it would cost to buy a new purse, painting an old one can save you a lot of time and money. Select a gold paint with a matte or metallic finish, depending on your preference. Metallic paint will have a shiny look, and matte will appear flat and will not glisten. Follow these instructions, and you can show off that gold purse in no time. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Newspaper
  • Eye protection
  • Face mask
  • Disposable gloves

Instructions

    • 1

Spread out the newspapers to cover the entire surface of any grass or concrete where you plan to paint. Set up your painting supplies outside, on or near the newspapers.

    • 2

Put on your eye protection and mask. Both items protect you from getting paint in your eyes or on your face. The mask also protects from inhalation of fumes. Put on the gloves to protect your hands from paint.

    • 3

Position the purse on the stand. This suspends the purse in the air, allowing you to cover both sides evenly with the spray paint.

    • 4

Spray the purse with primer. Allow the primer to dry.

    • 5

Spray the front of the mesh purse with gold spray paint, remaining between 10 and 12 inches away from the purse. Spraying from this distance will help you apply paint evenly. Avoid concentrating the nozzle on one area for too long, or you will cause drips and uneven coverage. Once you have sufficiently covered the front of the purse, paint the back. Finish up with the sides and the strap.

    • 6

Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply a second coat as needed following the earlier steps.

    • 7

Remove the purse from the stand when it's dry. Clean up any remaining newspaper and supplies.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear clothes you don't mind staining when painting.

  • Never use spray paint inside; the fumes are harmful to your health.
