How to Make an Origami Kamikaze Water Flyer
Almost any kind of airplane can be made using origami techniques: gliders, fighter jets, bombers and even helicopters. The origami kamikaze water flyer requires a large, rectangular piece of paper instead of the traditional 6-inch square origami paper. Any type of paper will do, like construction paper or copy paper, as long as it's rectangular. The plane is made in two simple pieces that are easily put together. Because the nose of this paper plane is thick, it flies well outside.

1
Lay the paper on the table vertically. Lift the bottom right hand corner to the left edge of the paper, aligning the bottom edge of the paper with the left edge. The left edge of the paper is now horizontal---parallel to the top edge. Crease the fold. You should have a rectangular single-layer portion at the top, and a triangular-shaped double layer of paper at the bottom.
-
2
Cut off the single layer rectangle at the top. Cut along the upper edge of the folded flap. You will have a rectangle and double-layer triangle left over. Unfold the triangle into a square.

3
Place the square on the table with one side toward you. Put the right bottom corner to the left top corner, folding the square in half (into a rectangle). Crease the fold, and then unfold it. Repeat from the bottom left corner to the top right corner, and unfold it.
-
4
Turn the paper over, keeping a side toward you (not a corner). Fold the paper in half, bottom edge to top edge, and crease the fold. Unfold it and repeat the fold by taking the left side of the paper to the right side. Crease the fold and then unfold it.
-
5
Turn the paper over again. Lift the paper off the table. Bring the left side of the horizontal line in as you bring the right side of the horizontal line in to meet it, vertically. You will have two triangle pockets, back to back. Flatten the two triangles together and lay the shape back on the table, with the folded corner toward you, the open side away from you.
-
6
Fold the right top corner of the first layer down to the center line so that the points line up. Repeat on the left side. Set aside.
-
7
Lay the rectangular piece of paper from Step 2 horizontally on the table. Fold the bottom edge to the top edge, folding the paper in half. Crease the fold and then unfold it.
-
8
Fold the bottom edge of the rectangle to the center crease line made in Step 7. Repeat the fold with the top edge to the center crease line. Unfold both folds.
-
9
With the paper still placed horizontally on the table, fold the top right corner in to meet the uppermost crease line (not all the way to the center crease). Repeat from the bottom right corner to the bottommost crease line. Refold the two horizontal folds made in Step 8, with the two triangles tucked inside.
-
10
On the left end of the strip of paper, fold both layers of paper, top left corner to the center line. Crease the fold. Repeat on the bottom left corner, taking it up to the center line. This is the airplane tail. Re-crease the center line fold, so that the fold tents downward and gives some dimension to the tail.
-
11
Take the form you set aside in Step 6--this form constitutes the wings and cockpit of the kamikaze flyer. Insert the tail form, triangle tip first, into the open end of the wings. Make sure the tail is inserted all the way in, to the tip of the wing/cockpit form.
-
12
Flip the form over. Fold the upper layer of the tip of the plane back so that the diamond shape is folded in half. Tape the point down.
-
13
Flip the plane over and tape the top triangle down the open center line. Re-crease the center line fold of the entire plane by folding the plane in half lengthwise.
-
14
Push the center line fold at the end of the tail in with your finger.
