1. Choose a paint color. Getting your boy involved will make him more interested in the project. Though a commonly used color is blue, don't let that limit your thinking. Color combinations are endless. Consider yellow to make the room feel cheery and roomy, or red for an energetic boost. Purples, greens - and the traditional blues - have calming effects. You don't have to stick with just one color for the whole room. Paint three walls blue and one wall purple, or try another combination.

2. Use paint to create a theme. If he is a baseball fan, paint a baseball diamond and baseballs. For a child who likes the zoo, paint animals.

3. Paint a mural on the wall. For boys who like the ocean, paint an ocean scene complete with sharks, jellyfish and other sea creatures. Use a kit, hire an artist, or design and paint the wall yourself.

4. Select wall colors that fit with the theme and decor of the room. If your boy dreams of being in the army when he grows up, and you're thinking of getting things like camouflage pillows and mini rugs to decorate, consider using a dark green, beige or brown color for the walls.
