Instructions for the 2Wire DSL Modem Connection
A DSL Internet connection is an inexpensive alternative to a T1 line for high-speed data transfer. If you live in an area with DSL service provided by AT&T or one of its affiliated companies, you will be provided with a 2Wire modem that will act as your gateway to the Internet. These are easily set up and provide reliable home service. Everything you need to get started, with the exception of a computer, will be shipped to you with your modem.
Things You'll Need
- 2Wire modem
- DSL filter (for combination DSL/phone lines only)
- Ethernet patch cable
- Telephone cable
- Active DSL service jack
- Installation CD
- Computer with CD or DVD drive and network card

1
Plug the DSL filter into your phone jack. If you do not have phone service on your DSL line, skip this step.
-
2
Connect the phone cable to the phone jack or DSL filter. Connect the other end of the phone cable to the modem port labeled DSL/HPNA.
-
-
3
Connect the Ethernet patch cable to any Ethernet port on the modem. Connect the other end of the patch cable to your computer's Ethernet port.
-
4
Connect the power adapter to the port labeled "Power" on the back of the modem and plug the other end into an electrical outlet.
-
5
Allow the modem to complete the boot process. This may take several minutes. When finished, the power and Ethernet lights should be green. The Internet light will not turn green until you have installed the software on your computer and a successful connection has been made.
-
6
Insert the installation CD into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
-
7
Follow the step-by-step instructions in the setup wizard. This should start automatically when you insert the CD into your computer. If it doesn't, you can start the wizard manually by double-clicking the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. When this window opens, double-click the icon for your CD or DVD drive. Double-click "Setup.exe" from the list of files on the CD.
-
8
Reboot your computer once the installation process is complete. Your modem should now be ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
If your modem offers wireless service, you will need to enter the WEP encryption key when prompted by your network adapter software to establish a wireless connection with your computer. This key is located on the label on the bottom of the modem along with the SSID or network identifier.
