How to Remove Water Stains From RV Ceiling Fabric

Explore America's Campgrounds

Water stains that appear on the ceiling of an RV are cause for concern. The appearance of a water stain is usually the first sign of a roof leak or a faulty seal. Once the proper repair is made to prevent further water leakage, the water stain remains on the interior fabric of the RV ceiling. While the stain does not cause any harm, it is unsightly. Removing the stain can be accomplished using basic household products.

Items you will need

  • Bowl

  • Hydrogen peroxide

  • 1/4 cup baking soda

  • Sponges

  • Water

  • Towel

Pour 1/4 cup of baking soda into a bowl and add enough hydrogen peroxide to form a thick paste.

Locate an obscure area of the RV ceiling and apply a tiny amount of the paste to the ceiling fabric using a sponge. Allow the fabric to sit for approximately one hour and wipe it off with a damp sponge. If the color of the ceiling fabric did not lighten, proceed with the stain removal process.

Dip the sponge into the paste mixture and apply it in a thin, even layer over the entire water stain.

Allow the paste mixture to sit on the ceiling fabric for approximately three hours.

Remove all traces of the paste mixture from the ceiling using a damp sponge. Rinse the sponge frequently in water to avoid transferring the paste back onto the ceiling.

Blot the ceiling with a towel to remove as much of the moisture as possible from the fabric.

Open the windows or doors of the RV to allow air to circulate until the ceiling is dry. The water stain will not be visible once the moisture evaporates.
