      Disconnect the power from the Dirt Devil by unplugging the electrical cord.

      Depress the button on the top of the dirt container lid and remove the container by grasping the handle on the container and turning the lid counter clockwise.. Empty the dirt container contents into a garbage or bag.

      Remove the filter from the lid by twisting the filter counter-clockwise. Remove excess dust and dirt by gently tapping the filter on the garbage.

      Place the filter under running water and rotate it so the streaming water cleans it thoroughly. Do not use any soap or detergent because they will damage the filter. Allow the filter to dry completely for 24 hours.
