How to Reset the Volume Control Password on an iPod
As Apple continues to introduce new features to their iPod line, users may get frustrated with the new unfamiliar features. One such feature is the Volume Control on the iPod where a parent can limit the maximum volume of the device and lock it with a password. If you forget the password,however, it can be frustrating to set the limit to a new level. You can reset the password with a few different methods.

Restoring Your iPod

Connect the iPod to your computer.

Open iTunes if it is not already running.

Click the iPod item in the sources list within iTunes to bring up the iPod configuration settings.

Click the "Restore" button. This will erase the iPod, reinstall the iPod operating system and begin copying all music back onto the device.
Using Hidden Folders in Windows

Plug the iPod into a Windows computer.

On a Windows machine, open My Computer.

In the menu bar select "Tools", "Folder Options". In the window that appears select the "View" tab. Click "Show Hidden Files and Folders" under "Hidden Files and Folders".

Double-click the iPod within the My Computer window to view its contents.

Double-click the folder named "iPod_Control" and then double-click the "Device" folder.

Copy the file "_volumelocked" to a backup location and then delete it from the iPod's folder.

Eject your iPod via the System Tray icon, unplug and restart the device. The password will no longer be required for changing the Volume Control.

Tips & Warnings
If you choose to use the restore method, be sure all music on your iPod is in your iTunes library so no music is lost.
It is very important to eject the iPod before unplugging it from the computer.
