Temporarily block a website.

If you come across a site that you do not want the user of your computer to find, you can easily block it. This site could be a social networking site you do not want your kids to go to while they do their homework or a sports site that you want to block from yourself as you try to get some work done at home. This process takes about two minutes to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Hit the "Windows" key and the "R" key on your keyboard simultaneously.

    • 2

Type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the Run field.

    • 3

Enter "notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts" (without the quotes) in the black command window that appears. Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard.

    • 4

Locate the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line in the Notepad document that appears.

    • 5

Type "127.0.0.1 (Web site)" on the line below "127.0.0.1 localhost." For example, if the site that you want to block is Facebook.com, then type "127.0.0.1 Facebook.com" (without the quotes).

    • 6

      Save the Notebook file.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 1 to 4 and remove the line that you created in Step 5 to unblock a site.
