How to Design a High School T-Shirt
School uniforms have been shown to improve school spirit. They give an instant sense of belonging and unity. However, full uniforms can be very restricting on a student's desire for self-expression. This is particularly true of high school students. Designing a school T-shirt is an easy and cost-effective way to work around this issue.

1
Decide on the style and color of shirt you would like to use. (Most professional printers have a catalog of available cuts.) Keep in mind that the shirt will have to be used by both male and female students. Form-fitting designs may be unflattering for some. If in doubt, choose a classic cut T-shirt--this will ensure the majority of students will be able to wear it. Consider choosing your school color.

Both simple and complex designs may be striking. Draw a blank template of the shirt. Include pockets, buttons and the collar. Distribute this template to students and host a competition for design submissions. Inform them of the colors available. You may require them to incorporate the school logo in the design. The participants may also be given a theme to guide their design. (For example, "2010," "Recycle," "The Zoo" or "One World") The winning design may be chosen by a faculty member or voted on by the student body.

Submit your design choice, color choices, shirt style, quantity and sizes to your printer. Follow their procedure and fill out any required forms. Make sure your school receives duplicates of all paperwork.

Have the appropriate people at the school approve the sample shirt provided by the printer. Authorize the full run and pick-up your shirts as contracted.
