For many decades, top designers from all over the world showcase their upcoming collections in New York twice a year. This is known as "New York Fashion Week" or "Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week" because off its current sponsorship by the luxury car company. Journalists, A-listers and socialites attend these fashion shows--by invitation only--and get a first look of what's trending in fashion. Purchase tickets through American Express travel packages, which is limited to AmEx cardholders. Seats are located in the Skybox suite (includes food and beverage) and tend to sell out quickly as there are a limited number of packages available for purchase. You could also search the AmEx website for contests. The company ran a contest for the February 2010 show where it offered a chance to see the Anna Sui and Brian Reyes shows for Fashion Week.

Volunteer to become part of the team that helps make the "magic" happen at the fashion shows. Roles include runway preparation, assembling gifts bags/press kits, and various other tasks. A resume and cover letter must be submitted by the deadlines listed depending on the show you're interested in participating in (i.e. Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer shows). This can be very competitive.

The event features world-class entertainment and fine designers from around the world. It's a great opportunity to feel the excitement and see what the runway shows are like. Tickets are more accessible than those of the Mercedez-Benz fashion shows and can be purchased online.
