The yellow RCA cable carries video signals while the black transmits audio.

The AV output jack on the Canon Powershot G5 is intended for displaying pictures and videos filmed on the camera on a television. You can connect the Powershot G5 to a computer using this output jack, but you will need an adapter capable of receiving RCA input. This adapter can come in the form of a PCI card that is installed internally in the computer or an outboard piece of hardware that connects to the computer via USB.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Powershot G5's terminal cover using your fingernail to access the A/V output jack. This terminal is located on the left side of the camera, if you are looking at the front of the camera.

    • 2

Plug the 1/8" A/V cable that was included with the camera into the bottom port labeled "A/V."

    • 3

Plug the yellow RCA cable from the A/V cable into the yellow RCA jack on the RCA input adapter.

    • 4

Plug the black RCA cable from the A/V cable into the white RCA jack on the RCA input adapter.

Tips & Warnings

  • For best results, it is recommended that you connect the camera to your computer using the USB cable rather than the A/V cable. The USB port is located above the A/V port on the camera and will allow you to easily transfer and save pictures and videos to your computer.
