1
Register with eBay and purchase a few items first. This will allow you to become familiar with the bidding process. Winning auctions or choosing some "Buy It Now" products will give you positive feedback from eBay sellers after they receive your payment. Positive feedback will prove to other eBay members that you are reliable and can be trusted.
-
2
List some of your own belongings for sale that you don't want or need anymore. You will gain practice as a seller without spending money on inventory. Write detailed descriptions and include clear digital photos. Before creating your first listing, you will need to become a verified seller by adding a credit card or debit card or by submitting a checking account number.

3
Select products that you are going to be selling. Expand and sustain your eBay business by finding products that you can buy in bulk at a very low cost and sell for a profit. Choose products that you know something about, are interested in and will enjoy selling. You will need to apply for a sales tax number and reseller permit through your state tax department before you can buy at wholesale cost to sell at retail cost.
-
4
Research your chosen product before listing or starting an eBay store to determine market and competition. Do a search of your item on eBay for current listings and listings that have already ended. Make note of the category and keywords used, starting prices and how much the product is selling for. View and compare successful competitor ads to decide how long to list the item and whether to use the auction format or a fixed price format with no bidding.
-
5
Offer a selection of payment and shipping options. This will attract more potential bidders and will increase your chances of making a sale. Taking the time to evaluate the rates and services of each shipping company will allow you to choose the carrier that will meet the needs of the customer. Let the buyer choose his method of payment. Having a merchant account and taking credit cards will be viewed as an added convenience for possible bidders.
-
6
Provide customer service that will bring back repeat customers. Be specific and clear about your shipping and return policies. Answer all questions quickly and in a friendly tone. Ship the item as soon as you receive payment and always let the buyer know when the item has been shipped. Leave positive feedback for the winning bidder as soon as he pays. Never argue with a customer about any issue if you value your eBay business and your positive seller feedback.
