How to Open the BIN File Extension

How to Open the BIN File Extension thumbnail
Most computers can play BIN movie files with the right program installed.

The BIN file extension is associated with different file types, including disc images, game emulation files and binary data that, most of the time, you'll never have to open directly. However, many BIN files are CD or DVD files. These BIN files are designed to be burned, but can also be opened and viewed like regular movie or audio files provided the right program is used.

Things You'll Need

  • Windows Media Player Classic
  • VLCPlayer

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install either the VLC Player, SMPlayer or Windows Media Player Classic (see Resources). All three of these programs can be downloaded at no cost and are free of spyware.

    • 2

Double-click on the file you want to play. It should be now associated with the program you installed.

    • 3

Right-click on the file if it is still not associated with the program you installed. In the pop-up menu select "Open With" and select "Choose Default Program."

    • 4

Click on the icon for the player you installed if it is there. If not, click on the "browse" button and select it in that menu. All BIN files will now be associated with that program.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all BIN files are movie or audio files. In fact, most are not. If you do not know what the BIN file is, don't open or move it.
