How to Decorate a Bedroom With a Horse Theme

Whether you own your own horse or just enjoy the beauty of horses, decorating your bedroom with a horse theme is the perfect way to indulge and celebrate your passion. There are a wide variety of horse-themed gifts available, from pillowcases and sheet sets to horseshoe lamps wall hangings. If you have your own horse, you might even be able to make your own horse-themed decorations out of your four-legged friend's old shoes.

Instructions

1. Examine the room closely to find items that already fit into your horse theme. If you love horses, chances are you already have a number of knick-knacks with an equine theme. Set those items aside and incorporate them into the finished bedroom.

2. Remove your existing, non-equine artwork from the walls and replace it with framed pictures of horses, portraits by famous western artists and other horse-themed items. If you have your own horse, hang a photo collage on one wall of the room and fill it with your favorite photos. Rotate the photos on a regular basis to keep the collage looking new.

3. Purchase a horseshoe key rack and coat rack, or better yet, make your own using your horse's old shoes. It is easy to make a simple horseshoe rack with a pair of old horseshoes, a flat steel bar and some solder. Hang the racks in a convenient place. Placing the key rack right inside the bedroom door on the coat rack on the back of the door is an excellent way to maximize space and utility.

4. Put horse-themed sheets on your bed and accent those sheets with an assortment of throw pillows. Choosing a Navajo or western checked sheet set and accenting it with three or four horse throw pillows provides an elegant look for an adult's room, while kids will love sheets adorned with various breeds of horses. Be sure to choose matching pillowcases for your bedroom set.

5. Add a custom photo blanket to your bedroom. These photo blankets are available everywhere, from specialty photo retailers to department stores. You simply give the store a favorite horse photo, and they use it to create a one-of-a-kind photo blanket to top off your horse themed bedroom in style.
